Course Learning Outcomes
Students Will:
1. Have the understanding to make informed decisions regarding all of the health content areas.
2. Possess knowledge of risk factors that can affect a healthy lifestyle.
3. Possess factual knowledge of health related issues.
4. Understand the benefits of practicing behaviors that are physically and mentally sound.
Topics to be covered Decision Making Mental Health
Stress Management Suicide
Sexuality Pregnancy
Nutrition Exercise & Fitness
Substance Abuse Sexual Harassment
Tenth Grade Health Education Grading Procedure Quizzes/Tests 30% Participation 20%
Projects 25%
Classwork / Homework 25%
Expectations For Classroom Behavior
1. We must respect everyone in class.
2. Appropriate language is a must.
3. Everyone has the right to pass.
4. Everyone has the right to confidentiality.
5. Be prepared for class: pen or pencil & something to write on.
§ Water is the only food/beverage allowed in classroom.
Current Events Assignments · Each person assigned will bring in a current event article related to health so we can discuss that particular health topic.
· Sources include newspapers, magazines, the Internet, videotape of a health related program.
· The student responsible for the article will write or type a one page write up of the article that summarizes the article, explains how this topic is related to health, and the student should include his/her own opinion. See Rubric
· Students who have current events due will also be required to present this information to the class
Folders · Each student will receive a folder to keep this syllabus, class work, or anything else.
· Only the teacher will read the daily reactions.
After School Support Due to the fact that both Health teachers coach after school sports, Mr. Bilheimer & Mr. Bunocore will be available by appointment.
Homework Policy
All work is expected to be completed on time. Homework handed in late within a reasonable time period will receive a maximum of half credit. Work missed due to an unexcused absence will not be accepted.
Make-Up Policy
Students will be permitted to make up work missed during the student’s absence. Unless a student has an extended illness, all make-up privileges will be completed within two class periods after the student returns to school.

It is the responsibility of the local school district to allow parents and guardians to exercise their right to exempt their children from instruction in human sexuality. Local school districts are responsible to develop curriculum that is presented in an age-appropriate manner
